British Transport Police hunt train louts

THREE drunken youths who racially abused a woman as she and her friends travelled to York on a train are being hunted by police.

The torrent of jibes was aimed at an Oriental woman who was a passenger on the 7.05pm Harrogate to York service on Saturday, February 27.

The youths, who British Transport Police say were “rowdy and intoxicated”, got on the train at Starbeck and subjected the frightened 25-year-old to racial insults before they left the service at Poppleton.

The youths are all white and about 5ft 9ins tall.

One is described as being slim and aged 18, with cropped blond, slightly curly hair which was gelled at the front, and wearing a white top with blue jeans and dark shoes.

Another has a shaven head and was wearing a black jumper or cardigan, blue jeans and white trainers.

The third also has a shaven head and was wearing a white jumper and blue jeans.

Anybody with information should phone British Transport Police on freephone 0800 405040.

Banning booze on trains might be the answer. Went to the races at Doncaster on Saturday, the behaviour of grown men on the train was disgusting. Ladies were leaving the carriage in fear.

Did not the Conductor contact Control and request BTP assistance en route? Or perhaps he/she do so, but the yobs realised that and left the train early.

Banning booze on trains isn't the answer - these people were already drunk when they boarded. They shouldn't have been allowed on the train - or railway property. Of course, this implies employing platform staff who have the guts to intercept them...

Can I recommend by new patent Froth-Guard (C) - its a simple, wipe-clean plastic device that prevents spatters of froth, foam and saliva from damaging my keyboard when messaging Your Say

Your Say is nearly as rich a seam of spittle-flecked ignorance as Have Your Say.

woah woah woah- more bizarre and abritrary censorship: Guy Fawke's diatribe was a little spittle-flecked, and I didn't agree with a word of it, but hardly worth removing. Nice one Evening Press

It hasn't really go anything to do with the staff having the guts, why should they put up with being abused, It is surly the responsibility of the btp, thats why we have them.

I don't understand it either. Maybe someone with too much time on their hands complained. Maybe Guy saw the error of his ways and asked for it to be removed.

It's only the comments section of a parochial local newspaper, hardly a big deal.

Sadly, it's exactly this type of person that tends to frequent York races too, not that anyone seems to bother, as long as money is going into the tills they don't care!

I agree with you: I wouldn't have the gut to face them and good luck to anyone who has. However, the 'responsibility' for the abuse not taking place doesn't lie with the BTP - it lies with people who got drunk in the first place.

Nobody who has obviously been boozing should be allowed on a train. The train crew should refuse to depart until the boozers are removed by the British Transport police or the outside police force. If they have to find some other transport or walk, it's their own stupid fault for drinking.

Absolutely I agree but as we cant rely on that I think the btp should be the ones dealing with these neanderthals.

I agree but the btp aren't on all stations unfortunately, this route goes through hammerton and cattle which are small stations with barely a waiting room.

Starbeck says it all, probably coming to steal a car in York, and didn't have rail tickets so got off at Poppleton to avoid detection.
