A TEENAGER has a 50-week jail sentence hanging over his head for the next two years because he mixed with burglars who targeted Sherburn-in-Elmet, York Crown Court heard.
Jonathan Paul O’Rourke, 18, handled goods the burglars stole in raids on houses in the North Yorkshire town last August.
He also took part in an attempted burglary in Sherburn-in-Elmet in the same month. The court heard he had never been in trouble before.
O’Rourke, of Easterly Mount, Leeds, pleaded guilty to attempted burglary of a house in Cricketer’s Way on August 21 and two charges of handling stolen goods between August 19 and August 21.
The stolen items included power tools, electrical equipment, hand tools and fishing equipment.
As a condition of the 50-week prison sentence suspended for two years, he must do 200 hours’ unpaid work.
Three burglary charges and one of theft against O’Rourke were dropped when he denied them.
