YORK and North Yorkshire postal workers are set to get their say on whether their union should accept a 6.9 per cent pay deal spread over three years and end the long-running Royal Mail dispute.
Officers of the Communication Workers Union and Royal Mail management announced yesterday they had reached an agreement that would also see postal workers’ working week cut.
The deal, hammered out over two months of talks, is subject to a ballot of the union’s members.
The pay dispute led to a spate of strikes and walkouts across the country last year, including in York.
The 80-page agreement includes £400 lump sum payments for workers when the agreement is ratified, with another £1,000 tied to delivery of workplace changes and other bonus payments.
As part of the agreement, the union would commit to taking part in a “transformation” of the Royal Mail.

Most of the country were falling about themselves desperately trying to keep their job and then the selfish royal mail staff are striking because they're not getting a pay rise...boo fricking hoo.
2.3% each year, shorter week, lump sum? They'd be insane not to take that. Most of the rest of us are just pleased our pay has not fallen more than it has...

It was a open view as to why the postal workers were striking and actually found in favour of them. The deal is good for those workers who will keep their jobs but what about those who won't through the modernisation? Do you actually know that now these changes are going through your post will not be delivered until around 4-5pm. They chose to strike for job security and to keep a postal service, not for a pay rise! Look at the door of Adam Crozier not the postie on the ground who was out delivering mail when most of the country came to a standstill in the snow. I have to ask would you have done delivered in blizzards? I doubt it!

If they don't take this deal we'll probably end up with more strikes. The only positives to this is that the smaller mail companies will benefit and Royal Mail will eventually end up being cut down or even disbanded.
Take the deal people or you will have no jobs to go back to!

There are plenty of people who can hide behind a desk all day but the postman is in full view of the public for the majority of his working day.
How will the poor posties cope with not striking, heaven forbid they have to do a full week the lazy beggars.
