Youth robbed of cash and phone in Salisbury Road attack

A GANG of yobs wrestled a teenager to the ground and punched and kicked him in a “cowardly and nasty” street robbery.

Police have sent out a plea to track down the group of youths who targeted their victim and stole his money, mobile phone and gold ring.

The robbery happened at about 8.50pm on Saturday, opposite the Minster Veterinary Practice in Salisbury Road, in the Leeman Road area of York, when the gang of eight to ten people approached the 17-year-old.

One member of the group punched him while two others tackled him and threw him to the pavement, before kicking and punching his head and body.

After stealing the ring, cash and phone, they went off towards Water Lane. The teenager who was attacked suffered cuts and bruises.

Detective Sergeant Clive Rich of York CID said: “The attack on the young victim was cowardly and nasty.

“Although the victim’s injuries were not serious, the incident has left him shaken and upset.

“We are determined to bring the attackers to justice and appeal for anybody who was in the area at the time to contact police.”

Anybody who witnessed the robbery or saw a group of youths in the Salisbury Road or Water End area on Saturday evening should phone Det Sgt Rich or Detective Constable Sarah Bullock at York CID on 0845 6060 247 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Its about time the police started patrolling the streets especially areas like this. These yobs make me sick, I would have no hesitation in taking the law into my own hands if I got hold of them!

You are not alone heathcliffe and it would be worth doing time for. I would stamp on their b******s repeatedly so they couldn't spread their satan spawn anywhere.

Don't go out in York after dark on foot, and in certain areas not in daylight either. So many of these crimes go unreported because of embarrassment or the fact that it is unlikely anyone will be caught, convicted and serve much of a sentence. Youth gangs know they are above the law, asbos etc just move them from area to area.

I live at Clifton and take exception at your comment. I have no criminal record, not even a speeding ticket. I do not let my children just roam free. I purchased my house after seeing it on right move moving here from elsewhere. My neighbors are very nice and the worst crime I have seen in 4 months is someone threw a snow ball at my window. So to tar everyone from Clifton with the same brush shows how ignorant you are. We cannot all afford or want to live in Fulford with the yuppies. Scumbags live in all areas of the city the problem arises from bad parenting and broken homes and having no future. The one benefit we will have when we become a Muslim state is these scumbags will loose a hand so they will only mug twice.
