POLICE in North Yorkshire are appealing for help to track down a stolen funeral cart which was used to carry hundreds of coffins to church.
The cart, also known as a bier, was taken from a garage in Low Worsall, near Yarm, between February 20 and 28 and is a popular piece of the village’s history, having been in use until around 1900.
It is made of wood and has traditional timber cartwheels with metal tyres, with each axle supported on springs. Anybody who has information about its whereabouts should phone Pc Julie Woodcock of North Yorkshire Police’s Northallerton safer neighbourhood team on 0845 6060 247 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
