Cars submerged by River Ouse on Queen’s Staith, York

Cars became submerged in floodwater in York city centre, while high tides and gales battered the east coast at Scarborough.

Last night, the Environment Agency had two flood warnings in force for the River Ouse in York – at Naburn Lock and an area including King’s Staith, Queen’s Staith and South Esplanade.

On Saturday, parked cars were virtually submerged in floodwater in Skeldergate following Friday’s torrential rain.

Meanwhile, motorists along Scarborough sea front were confronted with fierce spray as waves thrashed the coastline.

But a forecaster for Meteo Group predicted better weather, with river levels dropping by the end of the week. He said today would be a reasonably bright day with some sunshine and only a small chance of light showers, although temperatures would drop to -3C overnight.

Tomorrow and Wednesday were also likely to be dry, but Thursday and Friday could see some wintry showers with a risk of snow.

He said: “It will be feeling really cold, not like early March at all.

“But by the end of the week it will be reasonably settled and river levels should be dropping as it becomes a good deal less wet than it has been in the last few days.”

shame you weren't on it and got swept away.

I mean for gods sake this story has nothing what so ever to do with bikes yet you have to come in make your usual stupid bike comment. You really need to get a life.

He does it cos he thinks he's trolling. Just ignore it jigsaw.
.
I saw Paul the other week. It wasn't raining but he had punky-purple baggy leggings on and those yellow snap things round his ankles making em tight at the bottom. I couldn't decide whether he looked like Ali Baba or MC Hammer. Along with the helmet and all the other unnecessary day-glo regalia he certainly looked a prize pillock!

Either that or York has got a new unknown bylaw where all pillocks must dress as one to let ordinary people know that these people are not allowed to reproduce for the betterment of all of humanity. Although with this being Paul doubt that'll happen anyway as he's married to some metal attached to some wheels.

Ten out of ten for this one! Excellent effort.

And as for my allegedly strange regalia, it's intended to keep one nice and dry, during inclement weather.

Newsflash Paul we don't care about what clothes you want, but thank you for ruining an entire worthy news section that could have had an interesting debate on various issues.

They should also have tickets on them for parking on yellow lines or was the warden to soft to get his feet wet or just too lazy to go down the steps?

Pedalling Paul aside, If these people
had any common sense, surely the building operators, also the drivers of these cars, would have known of this common problem!

By the way Press, How long have you declared a password should be valid? It seems to be of shorter duration each week...

common sense should tell drivers not to park in such places during heavy rain its to be expected

Looks like it's a case of glug-glug-glug goes their no claims bonus. As does that of my neighbour, who forgot to close her sunroof after she parked her car on Thursday night. Even though it was only open an inch or two, there was quite an impressive puddle in the front footwells the following morning and the seats were totally saturated.

The "same common sense" that led some of the car owners to pay the ridiculous prices for the privilege of not being able to get out of your luxury riverside pad, no doubt!. LOL :-)
