MORE than 2,000 Girl Guides gathered at a York college to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the organisation.
Members of Girl Guiding North East England met at Askham Bryan College, York, on Saturday, for a performing arts festival, dubbed One World One Beat, to celebrate Girlguiding UK’s Centenary World Thinking Day.
The event was originally planned to be a two-day celebration but the snowfall on Saturday night and Sunday morning meant yesterday’s activities were cancelled.
Spokeswoman Jill Hayes said: “It was a great disappointment that the second half of the event had to be cancelled due to weather conditions but Saturday was a great success.
“The atmosphere was fantastic and there was a live video link-up with nine other One World One Beat events.”
