Amazing Grace is now one tough police dog

THE latest North Yorkshire Police recruit to graduate from training will pursue criminals with truly dogged determination.

Grace, a German Shepherd, joined the force when she was ten weeks old in 2008.

But until she and her handler, PC Marc Richardson, passed a 13-week intensive training course, she could not go on police operations. Now she has been licensed as a fully operational police dog.

PC Richardson said: “Police dogs are a really valuable asset to the force and Grace will do an important job in serving and protecting our communities throughout her career with North Yorkshire Police.”

Now 18-months-old, Grace will be called on to search buildings and open ground for missing or wanted people, search for and recover evidence, detect drugs and explosives, track suspects and take part in tactical firearms operations, among other duties.
