Pupils from Robert Wilkinson Primary school and Osbaldwick Primary School in York got their hands on an important piece of rugby league silverware.

York City Knights’ captain Chris Thorman and community development manager Adam Prentis dropped in to see them with the Northern Rail Cup ahead of the Knights’ first game in the competition.

Organised by Northern Rail, the Momentum Tour encourages children to get involved in the sport at the same time of making them aware of the dangers of playing near railway lines.

Chris said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to let the children hear what it would mean to the Knights to do well in the Northern Rail Cup."

Matt Brown, assistant headteacher at Osbaldwick school, said: “The visit from Northern Rail and York City Knights proved a huge hit. The presentation mixed the very serious message of rail safety with the excitement of seeing the Northern Rail Cup and learning more about rugby league."

The pupils were given the chance to win tickets for the Knights’ home game against Leigh Centurions by producing a rail safety leaflet.
