A NEW campaign to tackle binge drinking was being launched by health chiefs today.
NHS Yorkshire And The Humber is throwing its weight behind the Government’s Know Your Limits TV campaign which will warn of the danger of drinking too much.
Andrew Clark, deputy regional director for public health at the trust, said people should realise that regularly dinking two or three pints of beer or glasses of wine a night could “seriously damage your health.”
He said: “Men should not regularly drink over three to four units of alcohol per day, which in terms of drinks means about one-and-a-half pints of lager.
“Women are being advised not to drink more than two to three units on a daily basis, which equates to around one 250ml glass of wine." As part of the campaign the Department of Health has teamed up with Cancer Research UK, The British Heart Foundation and The Stroke Association to create a series of TV, press and outdoor adverts showing the harm that regularly drinking more than two alcoholic drinks a day can cause.
