THIS homely pub in Huntington could be named the best food pub in York and North and East Yorkshire. Reader Doreen Hicks, of Barfield Road, Muncaster Estate, has nominated the Blacksmiths Arms in the best food category of the The Press Pub awards 2009/10, referring to the place as a “home from home”.

Mrs Hicks championed the landlords’ friendly approach and the traditional English food served at the establishment. She said: “We wouldn’t go anywhere else. You would never get fed up of their meals, believe me.

“We have tried every different meal and come home full and very satisfied.”

She called it “a lovely pub with a lovely atmosphere”.

The pub has been run by Tony Hartley and Suzanne Smith for the past year.

Mr Hartley said: “I am very pleased that people are coming in and enjoying our food, and that they have taken the time to write about it.”

When asked for the Blacksmiths’ key to success, he said: “We have always promoted quantity, quality and value for money and that is what our customers get. We don’t sell fast food but we sell good food as fast as possible.”
