If you are going to list all closed schools, then do it properly. This is only a small selection of those closed. The Press with only half the story again......

How come people are shutting schools so the children and staff can get in safely? We drove about 5 miles yesterday morning on the UNGRITTED roads and still managed to get her to school for 8.30. It wasnt that bad.

its a disgrace schools shutting - they should be open for those kids & teachers who can get in. What if every other service in the country decided to close because of the weather

There are varying reasons why schools close. Given the further overnight snowfall some may be inaccessible for safety reasons.
One or two may be running low on fuel - deliveries are being held up by the bad weather.
For others, it may be that staff live some distance away with no indication when - or if - they will be able to get through. Heads need to have a basic level of staffing on site to ensure the safety of pupils what ever the weather.
There is a list of closed schools on the York Council web site.

Might make more sense to list the schools which are open! There are various reasons for closing - not so much the inability to get people in - more the risk that the children can't be got home at the end of the day. This is especially true in rural areas (ie most of North and East Yorkshire!) where the majority of pupils are "bussed".

Some rural schools on tuesday allowed the children to scramble in through the snow... and then closed mid-morning and sent them all home back through the then deeper snow. Doesn't make sense to me...!

Clearly you've never been in charge of a school. Many teachers live some distance from their schools, as do many pupils. It's pointless opening just to act as a child-minding centre for the ones who can make it, which is what would happen. There is also the added factor of weather changeability in the current conditions. Unfortunately someone has to make a decision and stick to it. That's what leadership is about. Clearly you can't please everyone and you're the evidence of that. By the way, the people the teachers deal with are children, not kids.

More confusion. Firstly, if you go to a newspaper (even an online one) to look for up-to-date school closures, you're an idiot. Often the decision isn't made until first thing on a morning so checking a website article written at 6pm is stupid.
Secondly, of course they sometimes have to close. Maybe you have a chelsea tractor, maybe your local roads aren't too bad. But you need a certain amount of staff to run a school safely or productively. If one teacher can't come in, who takes her class? Plus even getting to school is a hazard, and slipping on the playground could mean a court case for an unfortunate head. It's a tough decision to make, but often it's the only sensible one.
Bragging about getting your child to school along 5miles of ungritted roads in heavy snow surely shows an irresponsibility as a parent rather than some heroic feat that should be praised.
