Snow closes York Designer Outlet

The snowy scene at the Designer Outlet The snowy scene at the Designer Outlet

Arctic conditions also affected one of the city’s largest shopping centres. York Designer Outlet kept its doors closed this morning.

Centre manager Louise Wilcock, centre manager at York Designer Outlet said: “Due to extreme weather conditions, we’ve took the decision to close York Designer Outlet.

“This was a precautionary measure due to snow and our main concern is for the safety of our customers and staff and ensuring that we keep them protected.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and will let shoppers know when the centre is reopening.”

Fancy a night outside at the top of Garrowby Hill? Bbrrrr... Not me...

At minus 10 degrees as it was last night it IS 'Arctic' conditions which could kill you in no time. Decisions to travel or not must be weighed up sensibly. There's more to come so don't get too ice cocky...

Don't forget we've got permanent "Ice" road warning signs on Garrowby Lane to help us. What about that then eh? Even in July it might get icy - not.

Arctic, between -25 and -45c

York, around -2 to -10c

It's chilly yes, but hardly Arctic conditions.

More like they knew nobody would bother to go shopping there today so realised it would be more financially viable to close the centre.
