First Boxing Day opening for Beningbrough Hall called off due to snow

People preparing to visit Beningbrough Hall near York today for its first Boxing Day opening have been snowed out.

Following another snowfall on Christmas Eve, a risk assessment on the estate and exit roads led to the National Trust’s decision to not open the stately home.

A spokesman said staff were disappointed after putting “a mammoth effort” into creating a Christmas experience hard to beat with a 15ft Christmas tree in the courtyard, and an all-day “turkey free” brunch in the Walled Garden Restaurant.

With milder weather predicted and even sunshine, the hope is the snow will melt in time to open Beningbrough tomorrow.

The extra winter opening came about after visitors told the National Trust that they wanted an a year-round experience at their attractions.

People planning to visit Beningbrough tomorrow, on New Year’s Day and on January 2 and 3 are advised to phone ahead to ensure they are open on 01904 472027.
