St Barnabas CE Primary School pupils perform open-air nativity in King’s Square, York with live animals

NEVER work with children or animals, they say. But yesterday, in King’s Square, York, the old adage was proved wrong.

Year 2 pupils from St Barnabas CE Primary School performed an open-air nativity play with donkeys and pygmy goats.

The performance was accompanied by carols from St Columba’s Church choir and the Railway Institute Band, while members of the York clergy narrated the five acts. St Barnabas’s head teacher, Karen Boardman, said: “As we walked through the town I think it brought a bit of joy to everyone.”

Proceeds will go to The Press’s Guardian Angels appeal and the St Barnabas Bibles For Schools campaign.
