FESTIVE angels drew the crowds to York for the tenth year running.

Fake snow fluttered over The Quarter area of the city centre at the weekend as York staged its annual Festival Of Angels.

Tens of thousands of visitors attended the event as majestic ice sculptures, ranging from a penguin, a peacock and a tiger to a palm tree, a diamond and the Taj Mahal, lined the streets.

Mulled wine, live festive music and a selection of stalls were also on offer.

The Parade Of Angels – involving York children dressed up as heavenly figures – wound its way through city centre on Sunday.

Organiser Sally Dunn said: “The festival is always a real family event. There are sculptures to appeal to adults and children and there’s always such a magical atmosphere.”
