York police probe suspicious fire at a house in Tang Hall Lane

POLICE have launched an investigation into a suspicious blaze which broke out at a house in York.

The fire damaged part of the terraced house in Tang Hall Lane. It is thought it started in several different places in the living room. A pile of rubbish and paper in the kitchen were also set alight.

Firefighters were called to the scene at around 3.10am yesterday and believe the fire was started deliberately. Nobody was in the house at the time.

Next-door neighbour Donald Plummer said: “We woke up because we could smell smoke.

“It was quite scary. There was smoke coming through from somewhere and our room was full of smoke, so we phoned the fire brigade.

“Next door, the settee was on fire and it filled the room with toxic black smoke.

“Nobody was at home when it happened. I haven’t a clue who started it, but the police say it was suspicious.”

Anybody who has any information about the blaze should phone North Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060 247.

I've commented once on this. And it's gone. If you want to censor posts to keep everything "friendly" then this idea of interactivity with local posters is a waste of time. If you are manipulating what people see here by removing posts with an opinion the editor disagrees with then that's censorship and I won't be posting here again.

Sounds like either someone was settling a score, or a classic case of Jewish lightning.

You may not agree with GT's opinions but his or her comments are always measured and sometimes even funny. Preferable to some of the inanity and dumb ranting that goes on here.
I didn't see the removed comment but I couldn't agree more with the above, good point and well made. I detest the censorship that the Press carry out here, they should be ashamed of themselves.

I don't know why we bother, the same old censored rubbish gets reported often badly or inaccurately, real stories never get to print, and who's pulling the strings in York?

Why can we post on certain criminal cases but not others? And why are some articles "locked" after a few comments? Either allow people to comment or don't

Guy Fawkes says...

They probably lock all the ones that are sub judice (i.e. after someone has been charged but before a conviction or acquittal), plus the ones that they think will elicit a slanging match between people involved in the case, and/or politically incorrect comments that'll result in complaints to the YEP.

Does anybody know why the press has stopped the "recently in court" column? Haven't seen it for ages.

I think the in court thing possibly breached Data Protection, Ive thought that for a while actually...
As for the censorship of the comments, its a joke, free speech is clearly dead in York!

I can't see that it breaches anything. You can go to the courts and watch as people get sentenced, so is it not then public knowledge?

It is my ball I can do what I can.
What the posture of the York Press and editor!!!
Censor and what!
