Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life offering pre-paid places online as Christmas gift

CHRISTMAS present-hunters have the chance to help the fight against cancer by giving the women in their lives a challenge for the new year.

For the first time, organisers of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life are offering pre-paid places online.

Women with pre-paid entry will get advance notice to go online and secure a place at the 2010 York Race for Life on Sunday, June 27 as soon as the Race for Life website goes live on January 11.

This year, nearly 5,000 women took part in the York event and so far they have raised £287,000 to help fund Cancer Research UK’s lifesaving research.

Event manager Jenny Key said: “Race for Life’s new online pre-paid places offer people in York the ideal solution to the annual gift dilemma of what to buy their mum, sister, daughter, niece or best friend for Christmas. “The feel-good factor that comes from preparing to walk, jog or run the 5km, and then sharing in the spirit of sisterhood and pride on the day, will last far longer than turkey and tinsel!

“Race for Life in York has a fantastic atmosphere with local women of all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness abilities coming together to make a positive difference to the lives of people touched by cancer.

“They motivate and inspire each other to complete the 5k, with many simply walking round, chatting and having fun.” Many women who take part are cancer survivors or are participating in memory or celebration of a loved one whose life has been touched by cancer.

A pre-paid place, which includes the entry fee, costs £12.99 and is available from raceforlife.org/register-for-2010.aspx Participants will receive an e-voucher and entry code confirming that they have entered Race for Life 2010. However, at this stage they will not be able to select which event they are taking part in.
