NIGEL Holland, 55, has captured some stunning images over his 25 years at The Press. He recalls three moments that stood out.

“Princess Diana had finished her visit to Martin House Hospice at Boston Spa and had just got back in her limousine when I spotted someone jump over the barrier from the crowd and put his coat down in front of the car – Walter Raleigh style. I didn’t recognise him at first but then realised it was Jimmy Savile. Diana was laughing and got out of the car, and he took her arm and the visit started all over again.”

“Dennis Healey was canvassing at the shopping centre in Haxby when he went over to an old lady and said: ‘Hello. Do you know who I am?’ “She said: ‘No, sorry, I’m blind.’ As quick as a flash, he said: ‘Well, see if you recognise my eyebrows,’ and he picked up her hands and put on them on his eyebrows. It was an amazing moment.”

“I have been to Wembley a few times but never before with York City. It was the play-off to get into the old Division Three and it went to penalties. Wayne Hall who came out of non-league football to play, scored a penalty and Dean Kiely saved one to ensure York got promotion. The picture shows Dean giving Ginner a piggy back during the celebrations while carrying the trophy.”
