Gardening project in Church Fenton announced as the winner of £50,000 of Lottery cash

The Wildlife Habitat Protection Trust’s Community Allotment and Sensory Garden in the village has been announced as the people’s choice to win a People’s Millions grant, after a closely fought public vote.

The good cause cash of £50,000 comes from the Big Lottery Fund’s People’s Millions TV contest.

Supporters tuned in to Yorkshire Television’s news to vote for the project, which will see a community allotment and sensory garden developed. Raised beds will be installed where people will be able to grow and harvest their own fruit and vegetables.

The project aims to create a lasting legacy of healthy eating and the skills to grow and prepare fruit and vegetables, particularly for people with disabilities or long-term illness, children and excluded groups.

This is the fifth year that the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) and ITV have given the public the chance to vote on where Lottery good cause cash goes in their region. Eight groups across ITV Yorkshire have the chance to win up to £50,000 for projects that will enhance their local communities, with a total funding pot of up to £250,000 up for grabs.
