Witnesses sought for crash near Whitby

Police have appealed for witnesses and information after a serious road accident in North Yorkshire.

The crash happened on the B1447 at High Hawsker, Whitby, at about 9.30am on Saturday.

A blue Volkswagen Polo heading towards Whitby from Robin Hood’s Bay collided with a green Peugeot was travelling in the opposite direction.

Both drivers had to be cut from their vehicles by firefighters.

The driver of the Polo, a 17-year-old man from the Whitby area suffered serious injuries and is in a critical but stable condition in Hull Royal Infirmary.

The driver of the Peugeot, a 51-year-old local man, suffered multiple fractures and is in a stable condition in Scarborough General Hospital.

Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision or saw either vehicle prior to the incident.
