THE York soldier who spoke out at an anti-war demonstration after he deserted to avoid serving in Afghanistan, has been arrested.
Today Lance Corporal Joe Glenton, of New Earswick, who spent much of his childhood in Ryedale, is in a military cell facing new charges that carry a sentence of up to ten years in jail.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said that he attended a court martial hearing yesterday charged with disobeying a direct order and that the case was adjourned.
The 27-year-old Royal Logistic Corps soldier was already facing a court martial in the New Year charged with desertion after he refused to return to Afghanistan in 2007.
Last month, he spoke out at an anti-war demonstration in London’s Trafalgar Square and said at the time military personnel had told him not to attend.
