NHS North Yorkshire and York is supporting national walk to school month as part of the Change 4 Life campaign to improve activity levels among children and their families living in the area.
The theme this year is Count Me In, and the campaign is encouraging children to measure how much physical activity they do during the day. Rachel Johns, associate director of public health for NHS North Yorkshire and York, said: “Walking to school is a great way to get some fresh air and some activity into the day.”
At Woodthorpe Primary School, 86 per cent of children walk to school. It has a daily morning walking bus that has ten passengers, and a weekly cycle club for Year 5 and 6 children.
