PUPILS at a York school are hoping to set up a steel pans band following an inspirational week of activities.
Children at Tang Hall Primary School have been enjoying a wide range of musical and artistic activities under the theme of Around The World.
As well as imitating Italian Renaissance art and writing in Chinese figures, they were entertained by a visiting school steel band.
The band, who attend Driffield School, were led by Janet Burtenshaw, their former teacher at Nafferton Primary School.
Bev Pawson, Tang Hall Primary’s deputy head teacher, said: “The band not only put on a wonderful show, but also taught the children from Years Four, Five and Six how to play the steel pans.
“It was a great experience for everyone involved and, hopefully, the first step in developing a steel band of our own.”
