AN ICONIC – and by enthusiasts sorely missed – aircraft was seen in the skies above North Yorkshire more than 16 years after being pensioned off.
The Avro Vulcan, once the mainstay of the UK's nuclear deterrent, was always an airshow favourite. Now it is back, and while en-route to the Leuchars airshow in Scotland yesterday, gave the public a rare glimpse of its unmistakable delta-wing shape as it flew over RAF Linton-on-Ouse, near York.
Vulcan XH 558 is airborne once more thanks to The Vulcan To The Sky Trust. Following a £7 million restoration programme – with almost half coming from lottery funding, the mighty aircraft is again wooing crowds with its tumultuous roar and majestic lines.
