UNWANTED jewellery has been sold off to help fund a new vegetable patch at a York primary school.
The initiative raised nearly £200 and was organised by the Friends of Copmanthorpe Primary School.
Sally Askins, the chairman of the group, said: “We asked parents to send us all their broken watches and old earrings – any jewellery they didn’t want anymore.
“We then sent it off to a company called jewelleryrecycling.org, where it was melted down to be recycled.
“They sent us back a share of the profits and the money went towards creating a vegetable garden at the school. It’s for every child in the school to enjoy and it’s wonderful. Many of the children haven’t grown their own vegetables before and it’s a great chance to take learning outside of the classroom environment.”
