York Naked Bike Ride

AN 87-year-old woman was among the participants in this year’s York Naked Bike Ride.

Margaret Dustman, who lived in Acomb for more than 50 years before moving to Mirfield, said she took part because she was against people’s devotion to petrol and fashion.

Mrs Dustman cycled off in the altogether, but others were there in various states of undress, wearing Indian headdress, bikinis and various slogans daubed on their bodies.

Similar events are planned in Brighton, Cardiff, London, Manchester, Sheffield and Southampton.

The cyclists set off from the Museum Gardens and took a circular route through Bootham and on to Clifton Green before cycling along the River Ouse, back in to the city centre and on to the Millennium Cycle Bridge, finishing back at the Museum Gardens.

•Don’t miss The Press on Monday for the launch of our competition to win a bike.

The naked human body has been covered up for years, I suspect because of it's frightening array of shapes and blemishes.Since it is all one possesses, flaunt it or cover it up,to be hidden from pervatious viewers! The laws regarding human body exposure, are as stupid as the laws that govern what one can do also what one can't do with the human body...pardon the rant.

Wow there's some miserable old g1ts around! Barrel of laughs in your houses I bet.
Still its better to be safe, would want the kids to get "manipulised" would we :D

It's cos it's bikes isn't it? Anything to do with bikes is the antichrist isn't it? I bet if they rode round town dishing out twenty quid notes you'd all still moan. I pity the uptight.

Came out of a building BLoomsbury, London this afternoon to see what all the noise was about.
A guy shouted to the cyclists: "may be lads now but soon be chaps in this weather".
Went back to my seminar, was more interesting- just.

Indecent exposure is a law I thought. Why is this allowed without penalty?

The law was changed in about 2003. Nowadays there has to be a proven intention to 'offend'. The idea been to allow japes like this but not to give license to flashers.

Its nothing to do with bikes, its to do with old wrinkly unattractive bodies being shoved in your face!!! Who wants to see saggy boobs and the rest while you're doing out with the kids??

I'd rather see a small group of half naked cyclists round town on a Friday nigt than Stag nigts, Hen nights, and most of the drunken twits over the Bridge of Evil that's for sure!

The naked part promotes publicity, if it was "just a bike ride" could you see the press banging on about it for days and days like they do??? Its a gimmik, deal with it!

Yes,quite right - perhaps some of these people who are 'offended' should try getting a life!!
