SELBY’S Classic Motorcycle Rally takes place later this month, when more than 150 machines dating back to the 1920s will go on display.
The event is now in its 16th year and is held in conjunction with Selby Town Council’s fun day.
The rally will this year see motorbike enthusiasts bring their machines from all over the country as well as some from the Selby area.
Neil Harrison is one of the organisers of the event.
He said one of the stars of last year’s show was a rare Greeves International bike which was one of only three built by the company in 1962. Ridden by Triss Sharp, it went on to win the International Six-Day Trial in Bavaria, Germany, but is now owned by Brian Wheeler, who lives in the Selby area.
Neil said it was hoped the bike would again make an appearance.
He said: “We do get some really vintage bikes, some that are unique.
“We have at least 150 machines booked in for this year and expect a couple of thousand people to come through and take a look.”
Refreshments will be on sale throughout the day and musical entertainment will be provided by the York Railway Institute Golden Rail Band.
The rally will be held in Selby Park on June 20 and will be followed on June 21 by Selby Town Council fun day. This will see some of the region’s top brass bands play, including South Milford Brass, Hatfield Powerfuels Band and the Selby Music Centre Band.
There will also be displays by Too Hoots Animal World, which will be bringing some of its small animals for people to see and stroke.
There will also be vintage tractors, heavy horses, the Happy Dogs Obedience Display group and performances by the Claire Collins Dancing School.
The Selby Fun Run, organised by Selby Striders, will be held on the sports field at Selby High School, starting at 10.30am, and a pop concert will take place on the James Street Recreation Field, starting at 12.30pm.
