Dunnington Primary School lifted this year’s CPP Challenge Cup after a tight match at KitKat Crescent.

The game was a curtain-raiser to the York City Blue Square Premier duel against Eastbourne Borough and saw eventual champions Dunnington face up against Hemplands Primary School in the final.

With friends and family looking on, the game remained scoreless until the closing stages, but it was to be Dunnington’s day as they scored the winner just before the final whistle.

After the match, the trophies and medals were handed out to the winning team by CPP representative, David D’Souza.

D’Souza, who also presented York City’s Liam Shepherd with the ‘CPP Community player of the Year’ award, said: “It was fantastic to see York City host the CPP Cup and congratulations to the champions, Dunnington Primary School who lifted the trophy.

“We are delighted to work with the club and supporting the role they play in promoting football within the community.”

To complete the day, CPP ran an in-house competition for the chance to be the York City mascot for the day. This was won by six-year-old Felix Stilgoe who attends Yearsley Grove Primary School.

York City communications and community director, Sophie Hicks said: “Over the year our community team has interacted with 10,671 local children.

“We have provided free football coaching programmes to 47 schools in the area and we have now established 11 after-school clubs in the York and Malton areas.”
