EASTER came early at one York primary school when youngsters took part in an egg-enterprising competition.
About 50 pupils at Fishergate Primary School took part in The Chocolate Box Challenge, where they designed and developed their own chocolate brand for Easter.
For six weeks pupils, in teams of five, have been working on their flair for design which culminated in a grand finale when the children presented the eggs with a logo, packaging and their own radio jingle or television advert.
Some of the creative brand names thought up by the children included Mini Chocolate Makers, Munch Crunch and Milk Dragons.
They were judged by Wendy Taylor, of the North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership Programme – which organised the event – and Milvi Lim, principal nutritionist for Nestlé.
Wendy said every company thought up by the children had “something very special”, but the prizes went to the Yummy Sunny Bunnies and Chocolate Splodge.
“It was very difficult to choose the winner,” she said.
Wendy said projects like these brought “a real-life element to the curriculum”.
She said throughout the project, the children had applied skills in maths, literacy, finance, art and teamwork. “Most importantly, however, the event has been great fun for all the children.”
