CLIFFE Football Club’s second team were beaten 3-2 at home by Haltemprice Rangers in division five of the East Riding County League.

The defeat, which ended the Selby club’s promotion hopes, looked on the cards from the early stages after a Marc Brown own goal.

Within a minute it was 2-0, but Ryan Tiplady made it 2-1 and Tom Hogg then missed a chance to equalise before half-time when his spot-kick was saved.

After Haltemprice went 3-1 up Cliffe substitute Steve Hullah had a goal disallowed and play was brought back for a Cliffe free-kick.

Craig Allen hammered the ball into the bottom corner to set up a frantic finish, but Cliffe were unable to force an equaliser.
