THE head teacher of a York primary school was “delighted” when a glowing inspection report landed on her desk.

In the Ofsted report, Dringhouses Primary School was described as a school where pupils’ personal development and well-being and aspects of leadership and management were making excellent progress.

“Children have a good start to schooling because the provision, teaching and leadership are good and pupils settle well into school routines because of good links with parents and pre-school providers,” the report states.

Julia Elliot, the school’s head teacher, said the inspection confirmed the high quality of education provided for the young pupils at the school.

She said: “We are delighted by the report. It recognises the excellence of our early years foundation stage and the improvements we continue to make in the education and care of our children.

“We are very well supported by our school governors and the fact that they take a strong lead, using their expertise to benefit the pupils, is reflected in the report.”

The report was written by Ofsted inspector Robert Robinson after he monitored the school for two days last month. He concluded that the school was “satisfactory and improving”, with many areas rated as “good”.

“First-rate improvement has been made to all aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage,” he said. He pointed out that the leadership and management of the head teacher were good and she was very well supported by a senior leadership team. The report went on to say that the pupils “thoroughly enjoy being at school and this is shown in their good attendance, and positive behaviour and attitudes to learning. “Pupils care for one another well and pupils feel the school is free of bullying,” the report states.
