Face-to-face with a brutal past

YORK’s Viking Festival reaches a spectacular finale tonight.

The five-day sell-out festival is the largest event of its kind in the UK, attracting over 40,000 visitors from around the world, many from the Scandinavian countries. It culminates with a sound and light battle at the Eye of York in the shadow of Clifford’s Tower. Entertainment starts from 4.45pm, with the battle starting at 5.45pm.

The huge number of visitors to the festival put a big strain on temporary traffic lights at the junction of Water End and Salisbury Terrace, and caused some traffic delays in the city.

Ruth Egan, head of transport at City Of York Council, said: “We have been working closely with the contractors to minimise disruption throughout the work.”

She said the contractors would now be operating the signals manually between 4.30pm and 8pm to ease congestion and give priority to Park ‘n’ Ride buses.

Wednesday night, I set off from Haxby and traveled to Acomb, I set off at 16:30 and arrived at 18:55, nearly two and a half hours to travel that short distance.
It tool me 20 minutes when I came back. I know York has traffic problems most days, but this was the worst I've ever seen it.
I doesn't help either when busses don't pull into the stop correctly, and blocking off the lane while picks up passengers and takes fairs but of course this makes sure HE has a clear road to pull out on again.

And to all you unsympathetic people, firstly I didn't break down....I could not get the bus (an od late, the bus from Haxby has turned up when it pleases) nor could I walk as I had a very large item to pick up.
However, I have never seen anywhere, a ring-road that is single lane, but as usual, York always seems to try to keep it's medieval past, even in modern things

The radio said that there were 3 events going on at the time, 2 others besides the Yorvik festival. So yes, lets wait till lendal bridge is closed, road works at Water end and allow more festivals in an already overexpended city. It has to be now obvious that the LibDems cannot run the preverbial ****** in a brewery.......mind you, the other 2 would be hard pushed too

We'll take it as read then that you weren't stuck in traffic with a disabled person for 2 and a half hours then?
If that is the only reply you can come up with, I suggest you get out more and get a life instead of just sligning snide and unpleasent remaks via the safety of a keyboard...you Troll
