THE first steam locomotive to be built in Britain for almost 50 years hauled its final test run last night.
The £3 million 60163 Tornado, built by The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, ran from York to Newcastle and back again.
Mark Allatt, chairman of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust said: “Yesterday was another historic day for Tornado. The train has already had two successful main line test runs, witnessed by hundreds of our supporters. Tornado’s test runs are all part of the preparation for her Network Rail passenger début in the new year.”
Tornado is now set to reside at York’s National Railway Museum’s until February.
