A GERMAN kitchen superstore is set to open in York before Christmas – a move that is expected to create more than 20 jobs.

Kûtchenhaus, a German kitchen retailer and manufacturer, will occupy an 11,500sq ft space at the Foss Island Retail Park, in Foss Islands Road.

Kitchen styles on offer at the store will range from the ultra contemporary to the more traditional shaker styles.

Norman Parker, managing director of Kûtchenhaus, said: “York is a thriving city with a strong retail economy and we are delighted to be able to open our fourth store ahead of schedule.”

Speaking about the new store in a statement, a company spokesman said: “Rather than have small kitchens crammed into the space, the Kûtchenhaus design team plan to display over 40 complete lifestyle room-sets.

“Every area will perfectly illustrate what you would find in the catalogue, which means customers get to see the kitchens properly, making visualising the kitchens in their home much easier.” Kûtchenhaus, which has stores in Manchester, Chester and Halifax, is the sister company to Nobilia, the largest kitchen manufacturer in the world.

Mr Parker said: “The new Kûtchenhaus store in York is all about open-space, inspiration and relaxation. As soon as our customers walk through the doors, we want them to enjoy the experience and be amazed at the quality of our product and most importantly the price.

“Our aim from day one has been to bring affordable German kitchens into the UK. We believe our new showroom will illustrate that everyone can have a high quality kitchen, no matter what their budget.”

In the statement, the company spokeswoman said: “Kûtchenhaus plans to change kitchen retailing in the UK for the better, by providing made-to-order German kitchens, which people can afford.”

I thought I'd read that MFI weren't doing very well, and not sure that many people'll be planning on buying a new kitchen right now, but good luck to them

Thank god for that. A kitchen store openning with kitchens from Germany. Kitchen manufacturers all over the UK are closing and making redundancies so let's line the pockets of our German friends!
