FIVE more York workers will fall victim to the economic crisis today, when a textiles shop in the city closes.

National chain Rosebys has gone into administration, and its Clifton Moor branch will shut today.

Staff at the shop yesterday declined to comment, redirecting queries to administrator KPMG.

As reported in the Selby edition of The Press yesterday, the firm’s distribution centre in Selby is also closing today, with the loss of about 80 jobs. The store in Market Cross is also shutting.

Rosebys folded last month with debts of tens of millions of pounds.

Administrator KPMG told The Press it had hoped to be able to sell the company as a going concern, protecting staff’s jobs, but that has proved impossible.

Selby MP John Grogan lamented the demise, which hit the town particularly hard.

The firm’s distribution centre in Barlby Road opened in 2002, at the Potter Group site, creating dozens of jobs.

Mr Grogan said KPMG had told him the building was in a good state, so he was optimistic a buyer could be found to provide new jobs.
