A TWISTED wreckage was all that was left following an horror smash on the A64 in North Yorkshire which left a male driver dead.
Officers were called to the A64 between Bilborough Top and Tadcaster at about 3am this morning.
Police confirmed the man, who was local to the area, suffered fatal injuries when his blue Rover 216 left the carriageway and veered off the road.
No-one else was injured.
The road was closed westbound after the accident for over nine hours whilst police carried out their investigations and the carriageway was cleared, causing motoring misery to drivers who caught up in lengthy tailbacks as queues stretched up to two miles back.
The road was opened again at midday.
