A HUGE police search is taking place at the river at Nether Poppleton following the disappearance of an 82-year-old York man.

The man, who has not been named, was reported missing yesterday but the alarm was raised this morning when a member of the public found a pair of shoes and a walking stick at the side of the river. The man’s car was also found nearby.

Police teams with dogs searched the land around the river while divers from West Yorkshire searched the depths. The RAF’s Sea King helicopter was also mobilised although this was stood down at 1.20pm.

The search is continuing.

This does not sound good at all, but I really hope they find him alive.
