A YORK-BASED TV anchorman has been honoured for his contribution to sports broadcasting. BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration, an old boy of St Peter’s School, in York, has been given an honorary doctorate of the University of Bradford.

Former test cricketer Imran Khan presented Harry with the doctorate at the university.

Harry began his journalistic career as sports editor at BBC Radio Leeds, in 1982.

He went on to work on Match Of The Day, Grandstand and South Today before returning to Yorkshire.

As well as his work on Look North, Harry has reported on several Winter Olympics, and five Summer Olympics.

Harry said that to receive the doctorate from his home city was probably the most special thing about it.

“It felt very emotional,” he said. “They don’t dish them out regularly so it was good to get it. Receiving it from (Imran Khan) made the occasion even better – he’s one of the great cricketers of his generation.”

A real nice guy in a world of people faking it. Only seen the guy in the streets of York once and that was out jogging in an old Sheffield Wednesday strip!

It is an HONORARY degree for goodness sake! And it is from a third rate institution!
Such degrees are really worthless and are for decoration only!
This man is a true champion of the people and deserves better, perhaps an O.B.E. or an M.B.E.
York city councillors take note!!
