Three of the city’s parks and gardens have received a prestigious award.

City of York Council leisure chiefs are celebrating after Rowntree Park, West Bank Park and Glen Gardens received the Green Flag Award.

The awards are administered by the Civic Trust, and each site is inspected against eight key criteria. These include whether the parks are welcoming, clean and well maintained and safe and secure.

Stephen Whittaker, of City of York Council’s parks and open spaces team, said: “We are delighted that the parks and open spaces have received the Green Flag standard once again. It is testament to the hard work from all involved ranging from site managers to park attendants to the volunteers from within the community.”
