STONEMASONS and carvers at York Minster have showcased their skills on an international stage to help fund training for future craftsmen.

The group of six joined other top craftsmen from across Europe to take part in the European Stone Festival which was staged in Freiburg, Germany.

Dave Willett, Danny Sampson, Martin Coward, Payson Muller, Tim Foster and Bob Morris all threw themselves into the event, with Dave receiving a prize of a mallet and set of chisels for the piece of work he completed during the festival.

Each stonemason had two working days at the festival to produce their own interpretation on the theme of Europe’s strength is its cultural diversity.

At the end, their stones were auctioned to raise money to fund the annual festival and to help pay for vocational training run by a college in the Freiburg area.
