STAND-OFF Leigh Rientoul scored all the points for York City Knights reserves as they enjoyed a fine 12-4 win over Keighley last night.
Rientoul blocked a Cougars kick ten metres from his own line, collected the ball and sprinted to the posts for the opening score, adding the extras himself.
Keighley blasted over to make it 6-4 at half-time but, in a game dominated by excellent defences, Rientoul settled matters in the second half as he collected a fine Jack Stearman off-load and finished well, converting again.
Impressive substitute prop Stearman had set that decisive try up with one of several excellent runs, while hooker Tom Hodgson and second-row Steve Grundy also stood out.
Johnny Waldron also had a try ruled out for offside.
Coach Paul Higgins was delighted with the performance, especially in defence.
"Our defensive effort was 100 per cent better (than last week's 36-34 loss to Sheffield). We just had to be patient and we eventually got the score which gave us enough breathing space," he said.
