THE winners of the Peter Feasby Celebration Hockey Trophy were Robert Wilkinson Primary School.

The Strensall school were 4-0 victors over Skelton in the final of the annual tournament at Oaklands Sports Centre, in York.

The tournament is held every year in memory of former Robert Wilkinson head teacher Peter Feasby, who died aged 48 in 2004.

Robert Wilkinson, pictured right, who won the inaugural competition in 2004, came through a qualifying group containing Skelton, Clifton with Rawcliffe, St Wilfrid's and Lakeside, before bettering Stockton-on-the-Forest and Copmanthorpe in the finals night group stages.

They then ousted Osbaldwick 4-1 in the semi-finals.

Skelton's route to the final was more rocky as they edged through the qualifying stages as one of three best runners-up.

They then topped Osbaldwick and Huntington in the finals night groups, before beating Fishergate 3-0 in the last four.

A total of 28 primary school teams, which must be made up of three girls and three boys, competed in the tournament Qualifying Group A' was topped by Knavesmire Primary, who won all their games, while Copmanthorpe and St Mary's progressed from Group B', as winners and best runners-up respectively.

Robert Wilkinson breezed through Group C' with a plus 21 goal difference from their four victories, with Skelton joining them after winning three of their fixtures.

Fishergate qualified as winners of Group D', with second-placed Naburn missing out on goal difference. Stockton-on-the-Forest and Huntington were level at the top of Group E' and both went through to the finals night.

They were joined by Group F' leaders Osbaldwick.

On finals night, Fishergate topped Group 1, ahead of Knavesmire and St Mary's.

Robert Wilkinson bossed Group 2, while Skelton and Osbaldwick shared the honours in Group 3.

Other previous winners of the tournament, aside from Robert Wilkinson, include St Mary's and Clifton with Rawcliffe.

Peter Feasby's widow, Lisa, organised the event in tandem with Knavesmire Primary School's Adam Cooper, who declared the event a "great success".
