COUNCIL bosses are set to make a formal objection to a proposed £18 million waste incinerator west of York.
A recommendation has been made to Harrogate Borough Council's Planning Committee by planning officers that a formal objection to the proposed round-the-clock plant at Tockwith, North Yorkshire.
Plans for a waste incinerator in Tockwith have met with serious concerns from residents, with North Yorkshire County Council having been inundated with more than 700 objections to the applications including those concerned about noise, operating hours, odours, health and traffic congestion.
The planned incinerator, put forward by BCB Environmental Management Ltd, will involve transforming an existing warehouse into the waste facility.
The Environment Agency has also expressed concern over whether the existing chimney design for the plant will be adequate to ensure that toxic emissions from the plant will not land on the village.
Tockwith with Wilstrop Parish Council, which covers the area in which the plant would be located, has resolved to object to the application, and every adjoining parish council, as well as governors of the nearby primary school and other local organisations, have also lodged formal objections to the proposal.
Coun John Savage said the proposed development could have a devastating impact on homes, businesses and farms.
