THIS was the dramatic scene as a car burst into flames in a York street.

Firefighters from Huntington attended when the red Renault Scenic went up in smoke in New Lane, Huntington, near to the Halifax building society, at about 4.40pm yesterday.

Witness Tony Neal said he was on the way to the building society when he saw the blaze. He said: "The car blew up completely. It was quite dramatic."

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We don't think the cause was deliberate because we got a call from the owner who was driving the car when they saw smoke was coming out of the bonnet." The driver pulled over moments before the vehicle caught fire.
