A CAR was destroyed by fire after it caught alight outside a fuel station in North Yorkshire.

Fire crews from Thirsk and Boroughbridge were called to the incident on the A168 near Topcliffe at about 9.50pm yesterday (April 11).

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it caused 100 per cent fire damage to the car.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, the spokeswoman added.

Crews used two hose reels and two breathing apparatus to put out the fire.
