EBORACUM Sessions will return for a second six-hour Acoustic and Folk Sesh at the Black Swan Inn, on Peasholme Green, York, on October 20 after a successful launch in July.

Showcasing six established acts from across Yorkshire, the family-friendly event has been created to "offer audiences a live music experience in one of York’s finest pubs," says curator Ellen Cole, who also runs York’s Little Festival of Live Music.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be hosting a second Eboracum Sessions event, after the first one was a great success. This time, we have brought together a more diverse, wide-ranging line-up, including a few non-York performers who rarely play in our city, so it’s going to be such a great day of music.

"We'll be featuring guitar and mandolin-led Celtic bluegrass fusion duo Bella Gaffney and Polly Bolton; the mesmerising Katie Spencer, who has an unprecedented following due to her unique interpretation of alternative folk music, and female duo Union Jill, who deliver stunning harmonies, intelligent songs and banter you only get with two women sharing a stage.

"We'll also have local legend David Ward Maclean, who's built up a reputation as one of the finest folk musicians in Yorkshire; Nick B Hall, from Plumhall, who rarely plays solo sets in North Yorkshire; and lastly, we're delighted that Rich Hardcastle and Friends will be with us. They rarely perform in their hometown of York, so this will be a treat for everyone."

The session will run from 3pm to 9pm in the Wolfe Room; tickets cost £6 plus booking fee at eventbrite.co.uk/e/eboracum-sessions-the-acoustic-and-folk-sesh-tickets-49766270254 or £8 on the door from 2.45pm, and admission is free for accompanied children under the age of 16.

"I take great pride in creating family-friendly events, which is why the music session is free for children," says Ellen. "It’s definitely the perfect opportunity to introduce children to the world of music in a lovely venue in York.”

Eboracum Sessions has received a grant from Theakston Brewery, in Masham, enabling the sessions to go ahead at an affordable entry price, she adds.
