YORK City Football Club have no reason to be surprised or disappointed at the notice given by Persimmon Homes for pre-application public consultations on Bootham Crescent (“Crescent future to be unveiled”, The Press, September 6).

Persimmon are in the driving seat. They are funding everything and have the right to deal with the application process as they see fit.

Announcing an exhibition in two weeks’ time with a three-week follow up period for comments is perfectly reasonable and in accordance with industry practice.

Moreover, it is not the case that a future planning application will need to be made in joint names.

Any person or organisation is free to submit any planning application on any land at any time; provided the required notice under the planning acts is given to existing owners.

Thus, if I was daft enough, I could submit my own application to stack converted shipping containers on Bootham Crescent; but I won’t do this because I don’t have the finance or an option to buy the site and I know I would never get planning permission for it.
