ADULTS in Selby have been urged to take part in free events to see how healthy their hearts are.

Selby Health Matters is supporting Public Health England’s Heart Age campaign, which encourages adults to take the Heart Age Test and find out how old their heart is in comparison to their age.

The test takes minutes, and also offers tips on how to lower reduce risk of a heart attack or stroke to raise awareness of heart health.

Some pharmacies within the district are offering free blood pressure checks, including Boots at Market Cross shopping centre, Scott Road Pharmacy, Rowlands in Doncaster Road, ARC in Portholme Road, Barlby Central Pharmacy, Thorpe Willoughby Pharmacy in Field Lane and Day Lewis in Gowthorpe.

A drop in session will be held at Summit Indoor Adventure in Scott Road, Selby, between 10am and noon on September 27, where visitors can take the Heart Age test, have blood pressure and BMI checked for free, and find out more about a range of free health services.

Councillor Chris Pearson, Selby District Council's Executive member for housing, health and culture, said: "Completing the heart age test and checking your heart health is important for your health.

"This test will allow people to recognise if they are at risk of a heart attack or stroke. Taking precautions like this can help us all to make the appropriate changes to our lifestyle and ensure we are as healthy as possible."

North Yorkshire County Council and NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are also supporting the campaign.

County Councillor Caroline Dickinson said: "Looking after your heart is among the best things you can do for your health.

"The Heart Age test provides an excellent starting point, not only giving an indication of how your lifestyle is affecting your heart’s age, but also advising you how to improve it by eating more healthily and making small changes. I’d recommend anyone to take the test."
