A TEAM of cyclists from a Selby pub have raised more than £5,000 for charity.

Twenty riders from The Oddfellows Arms in Sherburn in Elmet took part in their 60-mile 'Tour de Taproom' bike ride on Saturday, September 1.

The ride was set up to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, setting off from the pub at 6.30am and arriving in Bridlington five hours later.

All riders completed the course - which included three stops - with pub landlord James Stead arriving among the first.

The riders themselves raised £4,000, with more cash still to be collected, and evening entertainment at the pub included a fundraising auction by local auctioneer Malcolm Dowson - and fundraising organiser for the YAA - which brought another £1,000 to the total.

There was also a disco, karaoke and a free buffet arranged by landlord Mr Stead and his wife Gemma.

Mr Dowson, who rode with the pack on a motorcycle as route controller, said: "It was a great event, and I would like to pay tribute to James, Gemma and others for the hard work they put into the event to make it a big success and raise so much cash."

Organisers hope to arrange a larger event next year, with more riders involved.
